Abstract

The electric tram propulsion system is an important technology in modern mass transit systems that helps improve transportation efficiency, reduce fossil fuel consumption, and decrease environmental pollution. This research aimed to study the operating principles of an electric tram propulsion system and to analyze the relationship between electrical frequency, voltage, and motor rotational speed. An electric railway propulsion system training set was used to conduct experiments at frequencies of 27.5, 30, 35, 40, 45, and 50 Hz. The experimental results showed that as the system frequency increased, both the voltage and the motor rotational speed increased accordingly. As a result, the distance that the tram could travel within one hour increased significantly. At a frequency of 50 Hz, the motor achieved the highest rotational speed of 242 rpm and enabled the tram to travel approximately 19.747 km/h. The findings indicated that frequency control of the propulsion system directly affected the operational performance of the tram. The results could be applied to the development of electric railway and electric tram systems to achieve higher efficiency in the future.
