Effect of bioactive extract from rhizomes of Zingiberaceae to disinfest Demodex spp. วารีรัตน์ แสนมาโนช

Abstract

The study of bioactive extracts from 4 rhizomes of Zingiberaceae including ginger, galangal, finger root and turmeric to disinfest parasite in human hair follicles, Demodex spp.. The result reveals that bio-extract from ginger fermentation was pH 4-5 after 15 days on statistic condition at temperature 35±2 °C. The hexane crude extract from ginger bio-extract at 100 mg/ml concentration could be disinfesting both Demodex brevis and Demodex folliculorum during 1 hour. Effect of this bioactive extract showed Demodex structure collapses. On the other hand, crude extracts from bio-extract of galangal, finger root, turmeric and all fresh of rhizome were not effective to human hair follicles parasite. Moreover, study effect of tea tree oil, baby oil, avocado oil, coconut oil and immersion oil to disinfest Demodex. The result show that tea tree oil high effective to destroy Demodex spp. structure within 5 minutes. Even if tea tree oil well disinfest to Demodex, it not still suitable for direct treated on human skin and scalp. Therefore, crude extract of bio-extract from ginger has like oil and ginger soft smell are alternative to ingredient in anti-demodex products for human.
