Abstract

Corn seeds soaked in 3% concentration of flower extract resulted in higher percent germination and vigor compared to the other treatments for both varieties. The optimum concentration of essential oil needed to enhance germination and vigor was 1% and 2% for BPI Lagkitan and Sweet Corn, respectively. The 3% essential oil concentration was shown to be detrimental to partially-aged seeds. The use of essential oil somehow ensured pathogen-free seeds based on visual examination. Seed presoaking in Sampaguita flower extract or essential oil may be an alternative to chemical seed treatment in support of organic seed production
