Improved metabolic profiles, body condition score and body weight as positive modulators of conception rate of nondescript pre-partum does fed concentrates
Main Article Content
Abstract
Does fed with roughage and concentrate had higher average body weight (p<0.01) and body condition score (p<0.05) from the second month until the end of the feeding period. Mean serum cholesterol concentrations were higher (p<0.05) in does fed roughage and concentrate compared to those fed roughage alone except during the first blood collection, while no significant differences (p>0.05) were found in mean serum triglyceride and glucose levels. Does fed with roughage and concentrate showed 100% estrus, 80% conception rate, shorter estrus cycle length (29.4 days vs. 32.6 days), and higher conception rate (80% compared to 37.5%) than does fed with roughage only.
