Antibacterial and Antibiofilm of Actinobacteria Isolated from Mangrove Sediments
Keywords:
Antibiofilm, antibacterial, mangrove sediments, actinobacteriaAbstract
Actinobacteria are Gram-positive bacteria that have an important role in producing of bioactive compounds against various microorganisms and have the ability to inhibit the formation of biofilms. Bacterial biofilms increase the resistance of microorganism for antimicrobial agents and developed the human infection. The proposed of this research was to investigate antibacterial activity and antibiofilm formation of the actinobacteria isolated from mangrove sediments. The results showed that a total of 17 isolates were obtained from starch casein (SC) agar. Out of these, 7 isolates showed inhibition activities against at least one tested pathogen. Isolates KK22 and KK27 showed the highest activity against Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus aureus, respectively. Isolate KK27 was further selected for antibiofilm activity. The result showed that isolate KK27 reduced 30.0% and 67.4% biofilm formation of S. aureus and B. cereus, respectively. Based on 16S rRNA sequence analysis, isolate KK27 was the most closely related to Streptomyces daghestanicus NRRL B-5418T with 99.14% similarity.
